The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is one of the UK's leading trade associations. It represents British industry using and operating freight services by land, sea and air and is funded by members involved in all modes of freight movement locally, nationally and internationally. The Association currently has approximately 14,000 member companies ranging from small businesses to large multi-national enterprises. 
FTA employs 450 staff based at its headquarters in Tunbridge Wells Kent, in five regional offices across the U.K and at its Brussels office. A high proportion of employees are inspectors, engineers and sales staff and most are field based, providing a variety of on-site member services.

FTA provides an unrivalled portfolio of professional services to its members, including a consultancy service providing highly experienced consultants who undertake a wide range of projects within the industry. We have knowledge and experience in business assignments ranging from legal compliance auditing and Health and Safety, through to strategy, benchmarking, operating procedures and planning studies.

FTA is recognised by the freight transport industry, by national and local government bodies and by a variety of organisations as the leading authority on all aspects of transport legal compliance. Our Membership Advice Centre handles over 100 calls per day on all aspects of transport law. Our Vehicle Inspection Service employs over 100 qualified engineers and carries out over 100,000 inspections per annum. Our Tachograph Inspection Services staff analyses around 3 million charts per annum on behalf of member companies. A large amount of digital tachograph data is also analysed and an extensive range of reports can be produced. As a result of these services, the association plays a major role in raising standards of excellence among its members and in promoting best practice across all sectors of the transport industry.

FTAs role in the project ProfDRV

FTA will be the work package leader of WP5 – Transport meets Education; Our role will be to transfer the project findings (upon verification of the content by all project partners) from an education perspective to real-world practical application within the transport industry. We will ensure an open forum between all project partners, and facilitate working groups representing both the industry and education to ensure that the project results are both workable and acceptable within the wider European market. These working groups will be made up of National and European stakeholders with expert opinion, which will lead us to draw sound conclusions from the project results and provide us with evidence with which to present to the EU commission on how to enhance the aims and objectives of the Directive 2003/59.   The findings will be compiled into a report that demonstrates the recommendations formulated from the project work and the stakeholder forums / working groups.

In addition to this FTA will also host a transnational meeting as part of the ProfDRV project, and participate in every work package detailed in the project brief.
